You can get some really interesting images after the sun goes down. All you need is a tripod, a camera and a full moon helps to light up the land. Here are a few from a series of images on a recent evening in Carlsbad.
A fire broke out today along the Camp Pendleton border with Oceanside. Checking the waves at Oside (perfect offshore conditions but small) we saw the super scooper coming down and making runs into the harbor, picking up water and then dumping a few miles inland over the fire line.
I ended up going for a swim later on with the water housing to get some wave shots with the smoke in the background.

I drive by this lagoon opening every day, when there is a low enough tide and the right conditions, these little 6-inch peelers come reeling down the sides of the sand banks. Kind of makes you want to take a shrinking pill and pull into some stand up tubes. Until Joe Stalder invents those, I will have to be content to watch them go by unridden.
Rather than sit in traffic on the freeway in the San Fernando Valley on my way back down south, I usually opt for the Hwy 1 down the coast through Malibu. I was heading down this day in September looking for some waves and saw a few groms out at Leo Carillo having a blast on some small ones. I snapped a few of these before joining them on my magic fish.
Here a few shots of Yours Truly from a recent bodysurf session that went down at County Line. Fun south swell and some good lefts. Had a great session until I got burned by a boogie and called it quits. Good prep for the Oceanside contest at the end of this month.
